A Journey of a Lifetime: Inaugural Primary School Tour to Japan

Nine days of cultural discovery, from Tokyo's innovation to Kanazawa's ancient traditions.

Over the September school holidays, a group of students from Years 5 and 6 participated in St Luke's Anglican School's first-ever educational Primary School tour to Japan, an experience that exceeded all expectations. This carefully curated Japan school excursion delivered an extraordinary blend of cultural immersion and adventure, creating memories to last a lifetime.

Our Primary School trip to Japan took students on an unforgettable nine-day journey through Tokyo and Kanazawa. The excitement began at Tokyo Disneyland, where students experienced world-class entertainment, before boarding the iconic Shinkansen bullet train to Kanazawa – a thrilling 2.5-hour ride that showcased Japan's technological excellence.

In Tokyo, students explored the historic Asakusa district, marvelled at cutting-edge exhibits at Miraikan Science Museum, and were mesmerised by the immersive art at TeamLab Planets. In the picturesque city of Kanazawa, our young travellers discovered the breathtaking beauty of Kenrokuen Gardens and explored the atmospheric Higashi Chaya district.

The hands-on cultural activities truly made this tour unforgettable. Students participated in an authentic gold leaf chopstick-making workshop in Kanazawa, learning the delicate craft this city has perfected over centuries. They experienced an energetic Taiko drumming workshop at a traditional temple, practised calligraphy with monks, and participated in a serene tea ceremony.

This Japanese cultural immersion tour provided invaluable opportunities for our students to develop global citizenship, cultural awareness, and appreciation for diverse perspectives – insights that simply cannot be replicated in a classroom setting.
