Service to Others
I am regularly left feeling proud of our students as they take part in the range of non-academic activities on offer at St Luke’s. Of all the activities, however, I have a soft spot for service activities. Certainly, our St Luke’s families experience their fair share of hardship in life, but we live in a blessed part of the world and generally have sufficient resources to meet our needs. That is not always the case for people, both locally and around the world.
At Worship, we recently read the story of the Good Samaritan, Luke 10:25-37. Partially because it is from the book of St Luke, it is a foundational story for our School. As many know, it tells the story of a person who was robbed and beaten, and who was in need of help. Two people passed by and did not help, and it was ultimately a Samaritan, a traditional enemy of the person who required help, who came to their aid. Jesus told this story when he was asked, “And who is my neighbour?” After telling the story, Jesus asked those gathered who had acted like a neighbour and received the reply, “The one who had mercy.”
Christians who observe Lent are asked to give up something during the holy period leading up to Easter. A significant part of this is that giving up something is a way to focus on generosity and service to others. At St Luke’s, we ask students to consider whether whatever they give up could be directed towards others. If they forgo takeaway one night, could they direct that money to a worthy cause? Right now, the Middle and Senior School students are being asked to collect items for the annual Lenten Parish Pantry Appeal. Non-perishable goods, sanitary items and monetary donations can be contributed to the appeal, which will be used by Christ Church to provide aid to people in Bundaberg who are struggling to provide themselves and their children with basic needs. I encourage all of our families to be generous in their giving at this time.

House Uniform Feedback
Thank you to all the members of our community who have already provided feedback on the House Hero animals. If you haven’t yet, please see the Parent Facebook groups for options and a link to the survey, as the first round of feedback closes on Monday at 10.30 am. I can tell you that, so far, the stylised and modern options have received the majority of support.

We have now placed physical samples in the Main and Primary offices, and also in the Uniform Shop. These samples do not represent a chosen design; they are one style that our manufacturer produced so that members of our community could feel the fabric they are recommending. If you have time, please pop into the Uniform Shop or one of the offices, and of course, please look out for the next opportunity for feedback this coming Wednesday.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our School.
