Welcome to the third Principal's Reflection for Term 3, 2025.
Student Involvement in Worship
You may or may not be aware that almost every weekly Worship service in the Middle and Senior schools is organised by our students, with the assistance of some dedicated and passionate staff, of course. Each Pastoral Care class takes responsibility for at least one service during the year, and I am regularly amazed by the thought-provoking issues they choose to address each week.
Recently, our Year 9 ‘The Rite Journey’ Pastoral Care classes have been leading Worship. I have been so impressed by not only the deep thought that has gone into each service but also the effort these classes have put into producing dramatic plays and videos to help explain the message of the week. Last week, Mr Ben Smith’s Year 9 boys produced a video where they acted out the story of Kate Miller-Heidke’s ‘Caught in the Crowd’ music video from 2008. I wish I could include the students’ video in this reflection, but because it includes copyrighted music, I am unable to share it. Suffice it to say that I was very proud to see the product of their efforts, just as I am with every class who produces a Worship service. Just before I sat down to write my reflection this week, I was interviewed by the students of Year 10 Noble for their Father’s Day Worship Service, and I know I was only one of many people interviewed. I am looking forward to seeing what they turn these interviews into.
Hearts for Africa
Talking about Father’s Day, shortly the annual Father’s Day stall will pop up in the Primary School for students to purchase small gifts in preparation for Father’s Day. Proceeds from both the Father’s Day stall and the Mother’s Day stall are donated to the Hearts for Africa Foundation, which support vital work in Tanzania. Founded by Fr John Naumann, Hearts for Africa primarily supports the Prince of Peace Primary School in Mvumi, paying for buildings, teaching resources and teacher salaries. I recently met with Ken Keith, Chair of Hearts for Africa, and one of their hardest working volunteers. He wanted to express his thanks for the School’s support. Of course it is our parents and carers who make this support possible, so thank you to everyone who contributes to this ongoing work by purchasing gifts from the stalls. If you would like to find out more about their work, please visit the Hearts for Africa website.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our School.
Mr Matthew Hughes
